Step by step

6 steps

  1. 1

    Chain foundation (3 × n + 1)

Chain a multiple of 3, then add 1 extra chain (total = 3n + 1) to set your width. Remember tulip rows repeat over 4 rows if you need a specific blanket height.

  2. 2

Join color A with a slip stitch

Join Color A with a slip stitch into the first chain/stitch to start Row 1.

  3. 3

    Make the V-leaves (Row 1)

Ch 4 (counts as dc + ch1), then dc in the same stitch to form the starting V. *Skip 2 sts, work (1 dc, ch 2, 1 dc) in next stitch.* Repeat that V unit across the row. In the final V work (1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc). Cut yarn and turn.

  4. 4

Join color B into the first V-space

Join Color B with a slip stitch into the first V-space (the small ch-space beneath the chains) to begin the flower row.

  5. 5

    Make a 6-loop bobble in each V-space (Row 2)

In the V-space make the tulip bobble: ch 2, then work the bobble by repeating [YO, insert hook in same space, YO pull up a loop, YO pull through first two loops] until you have six loops on the hook; then YO and pull through all loops. Pull snug to shape. Ch 2, then repeat the 6-loop bobble in each V-space to the end of the row. Cut yarn and turn.

  6. 6

Join on top and work hdc row

Join your next color with a slip stitch into the top of the first tulip. Work 1 hdc in the top of each tulip and 2 hdc in the small spaces between tulips across the row. End with a hdc in the last tulip and fasten off.
